The Lord is Risen, Alleluia!

Dear Friends,

The Lord is Risen, Alleluia! After a full week of activities in the church, we concluded Lent and the Triduum of Holy Week. Now we all rejoice and celebrate the victory of Our Lord over death, the new Life, His glorious Resurrection. With this He has unlocked for us the path to eternity. This is Good News for us. But we need to remember that resurrection has its cost: self-giving for the sake of others. The only way to open ourselves and receive the new Life that God promises through the resurrection of Jesus Christ is to open ourselves to the needs of others in self-giving.

The paradox of Christianity is that dying to self isn’t something to avoid, but is the way we remove the stone that blocks our own hearts from receiving new Life. We have the next fifty days of Easter to help us grasp in our hearts and daily living that when we reach out to others we ourselves are actually living Jesus’ risen Life. We only need to take the time to contemplate this mystery and recognize the good with which God blesses us. Happy Easter!

Encountering GOd in Sacramento

Dear Friends,

Last weekend, the confirmation class III had the opportunity to live this awesome encounter with God in the mountain of Sacramento. Anton, Jayne, seminarian Franky, myself and some college students were part of the staff that lead that Godly experience. There were some other students from other parishes that joined our retreat. It was a weekend full of different activities in which the students participated building community and experiencing the love of God in their lives. My prayer is that this retreat planted the seed of God's love and mercy in their lives. Thank you St. Albert the Great community for your prayers.

Now, we are celebrating Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord. Jesus continues in his journey up to Jerusalem. Palm Sunday begins an extraordinary week, a week that concentrate in a few days the ultimate meaning of our whole Christian life. We must slow ours lives down and make choices so that this week doesn't go by without our taking the time to enter into its meaning.

Where Do We Go From Here?

Dear Friends,

This weekend we celebrate the Fifth Sunday of Lent. There are many things going on in our church: Fr. Ray is in his second or third day of walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, Mona and a group of students are heading to San Diego, California for an Alternative Spring Break, the confirmation class is in a retreat up in the Sacramento mountains, and NMSU students are enjoying their Spring Break.

Please keep all of them/us in your prayers with that said, I want to reaffirm what the Sacred Scriptures tell us this weekend: let the past be the past and the future be the future. Our world and each of us need repentance. We should repent, of course, but then not fix our eyes on yesterday's sin but on today's forgiveness and tomorrow's hope. The repentance that saves is not constant self-scourging but a new birth of faith and loyalty to Christ. Regret dwells in the past. Repentance looks to the future to ask: where do we go from here?

Be Joyful this Laetare Sunday

Dear Friends,

What busy and blessed weeks we have had the last two weeks. The week before with the coming of Pope Francis to our border land- many of us had the opportunity to experienced that first hand and be part of the mass by the border. That was quite an experience. From my part I have to say that I got to be in the first row and see the Pope very close. I concelebrated mass with Him and many other priests from all over Mexico and the United States. It was a long day of waiting, but it was an awesome feeling being there.

After that, I headed to Sealy, Texas where I did a three day mission on the Eucharist. While my mission was going on in Texas, you had the wonderful mission here on the Sacraments. I've been hearing nothing but good things about our mission here. What a blessing that many of you attended it. Now we are celebrating the fourth Sunday of Lent. This Sunday is also known as "Laetare Sunday," from the Latin meaning "to rejoice" or "to be joyful." With that said, keep in mind the Gospel for this weekend where we hear the love and joy of the Father when the Prodigal Son comes back.
