The Lord is Risen, Alleluia! After a full week of activities in the church, we concluded Lent and the Triduum of Holy Week. Now we all rejoice and celebrate the victory of Our Lord over death, the new Life, His glorious Resurrection. With this He has unlocked for us the path to eternity. This is Good News for us. But we need to remember that resurrection has its cost: self-giving for the sake of others. The only way to open ourselves and receive the new Life that God promises through the resurrection of Jesus Christ is to open ourselves to the needs of others in self-giving.
The paradox of Christianity is that dying to self isn’t something to avoid, but is the way we remove the stone that blocks our own hearts from receiving new Life. We have the next fifty days of Easter to help us grasp in our hearts and daily living that when we reach out to others we ourselves are actually living Jesus’ risen Life. We only need to take the time to contemplate this mystery and recognize the good with which God blesses us. Happy Easter!
