Hello friends, 

Did you know that the priests from our diocese have to go to a one week retreat at least once a year? It has been the custom that every year the priests from our diocese get together for fellowship and prayer. For a few years we have used the space of the Redemptorist Renewal Center is Tucson, Arizona. This is a time to clear our minds from the pastoral and administrative work in our parishes and to spend quality time with our brother priests. Every year we invite a priest or bishop to direct our reteat in the desert. This year we have the privilege to have the Auxiliary Bishop from the Archdiocese of Chicago, Alberto Rojas. Every day we gather for morning and evening prayer. Throughout the day we have difference activities such as: Conference, the Holy Eucharist, Reconciliation, Holy Hour, and Anointing of the Sick. It is just a beautiful time to administer some of the Sacraments among ourselves. With that being said, the week of August 28 to September 1, most of the active diocesan priests will be living this experience in Tucson. Please keep us in your prayer as we will be praying for all of you too.

Hello Friends, 

I want to take this opportunity to welcome back returning students and also to welcome those who are new to NMSU and DACC. We, St. Albert the Great Newman Parish, are here to help you and support you in any way we can. I can only imagine the excitement you all have to be back. I pray for all of you and also for the professors. I want to share a blessing for you both: students and teachers. Lord our God, in your wisdom and love you surround us with the mysteries of the universe in times long past you sent us your prophets to teach your laws and to bear witness to your undying love. You sent us your Son to teach us by word and example that true wisdom comes from you alone. Send your Spirit upon these students and their teachers and fill them with your wisdom and blessing. Grant that during this academic year they may devote themselves to their studies and share what they have learned from others. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hello friends,

This past weekend the faithful from different parts of the  diocese gathered in Deming, New Mexico to celebrate the Eucharistic Congress with Bishop Oscar Cantu. The event started on Friday night for the priests of the diocese. We gathered at St. Ann's church for dinner and a presentation on "vocations" by Rhonda Gruenewald who wrote a book called: Hundredfold.She encouraged us to raise awareness of vocations in our parishes. I have put a copy of the book in the parish library. The following day (Saturday), Bishop Cantu celebrated Mass at a local park with more than twenty priests, a few deacons and sisters, and many faithful people from around the diocese. After communion there was a procession in town with the Blessed Sacrament. We visited St. Ann's parish and then Holy Family parish. The Congress continued with talks and workshops throughout the day at both parishes. What an experience of faith!
