Helpful advice for the beginning of summer
St. Gregory of Nyssa, a fourth century bishop comments that the life of a Christian has three distinguishing aspects: deeds, words, and thoughts. Thoughts comes first, then words, and finally actions. Each of us must examine their thoughts, words and deeds, to see whether they are directed toward Christ or are turned away from him. According to St. Gregory, they are not in harmony with Christ if they issue from passion. On the other hand, if our thoughts, words, and deeds come from          an untainted passionate inclination, they are directed toward Christ, the author and source of peace. It is then that our life is stamped with the beauty of His thought, the interior elements of the soul and exterior faculties of the body, harmonized in a kind of music. This harmony with Christ is what refreshes the soul during the summer. If you draw from Him, you will show a likeness to Christ, your source and origin, the gleaming water of a pure untainted stream, flowing from the source of life, which is Christ. Happy summer everyone, and please drink plenty of water, the source of all life.
