THE GIFT WE HAVE IN THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Happy Trinity Sunday!

Trinity Sunday always falls on the Sunday after Pentecost, just one week after we commemorate and celebrate the gift we have in the person of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Holy Trinity.

Three years ago on Trinity Sunday I had the privilege to celebrate my first mass at St. Albert the Great Newman Parish.  I still have all those memories fresh in my mind.  Who would've thought that I was going to end up back at Newman Parish after serving several communities in the Tularosa area for a year.  After three years as a priest I thank the Good Lord for this call and ministry to serve you all.

Let me take a moment to explain about the Trinity.  Holy Trinity refers to the three divine persons in one God.  We can identify the three - Father, Son & Holy Spirit.  We can name them, but never fully understand them.  They constitute a  mystery of faith; the mystery, as we say, of the Most Holy Trinity.  This doesn't mean that we know nothing at all about the Trinity.  Don't let yourself be put off by the word mystery.  Instead, let it intrigue you, let it serve to invite you to reflect on the nature of God, and let that reflection produce a sense of awe within you in the presence of the mysterious, all-present, all knowing, omni-competent, all-powerful and altogether other reality before you in your triune God.  That God is your Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier.  That God is the source of your being.  That God sustains you in existence.  That God is the Most Holy Trinity!
