The epiphany of the lord

Dear Friends,

We continue in the liturgical Christmas Season by celebrating the Epiphany this Sunday. In the Christmas story, we often think of there being three wise men. We do not know how many there were. We associate there being three wise men with the three gifts that were given to Jesus. Tradition says the wise men had names Melchior, Balthazar, and Caspar. One legend says that the three wise men were different ages. Melchior was old. Balthazar was middle aged. Caspar was young. They go to Bethlehem together to the manger where Christ is born. The oldest Melchior goes into the manger first. And who does he encounter? To his surprise he encounters an old man his own age. Melchior feels right at home. They speak together of memories and gratitude. The middle aged Balthazar goes into the manger second. And who does he encounter? To his surprise he encounters a middle aged teacher. They talk passionately of leadership, learning, and responsibility. The young Caspar goes into the manger last. And who does he encounter? To his surprise he encounters a young prophet. They speak together about promise, hope, and what is to come. When they all had gone outside after going in one by one, the three wise men go into the manger together to deliver their gifts. And who do they encounter? They encounter an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes. Then, they understood. That same Jesus speaks to us at every stage of our lives. Christmas is not just for children. He is speaking to all of us today to prepare room in our hearts for him

No sabemos cuántos había. ¿Y a quién encuentra? ¿Y a quién encuentra? ¿Y a quién encuentra?
