FEAST OF THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD

2/2/2020

Dear Friends,

Today, we celebrate the Presentation of the Lord. We are introduced to the prophetess Anna in Luke’s Gospel. Anna was in constant prayerful communion with God. It was God’s providence that she walked by just at the time that Mary and Joseph brought baby Jesus into the Temple. Later in the Gospel, Jesus would say, “Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you.” (Lk 11:9) Anna was already following the words of Jesus while she prayed in the temple that he would preach thirty years later. She was asking for a messiah, she was seeking salvation, she knocked, and the door was opened and there he is, Jesus. Anna was someone who sought the Lord in prayer, and one day she found the one whom she sought. Having found him, she shared him with others. She evangelizes. The gospel reading says she spoke about the child to all those who were looking forward to the deliverance of Jerusalem. We have much to learn from this widow. She reminds us that the Lord comes to those who prayerfully seek him, and she encourages us to share with others the Lord who has come to us.
