Dear Newman Community, Wow, it’s hard to believe Lent has arrived! And with Lent comes one of my favorite initiatives of the year, our Parish Lenten Almsgiving. A collaborative effort between Campus Ministry and Newman Social Ministry, our Lenten Almsgiving is an opportunity to intentionally engage the ‘Give Alms’ pillar of Lent (the three pillars being Praying, Fasting and Almsgiving). This Lent we partner with Catholic Relief Services to reach out to refugees. See the special bulletin insert or our website (stalbertnewmancenter.org) for more details about how you can get involved. Also coming up this Wednesday is our trip with students to the “Two Nations One Faith” event at the UTEP Sun Bowl in El Paso. While we are not overly excited to go into Miner territory (Go Aggies!) we’ll make an exception for this special event. Please keep us in prayer as we seek to gather with the community of faith from our Borderland to welcome Pope Francis. It is likely to be a very uplifting and inspiring experience! Peace, Mona | Lenten Reflection for Students, Faculty & Staff “Behold, now is the very acceptable time, behold, now is the day of salvation.” -2 Corinthians 6:2 How is today “the very acceptable time” to receive and share God’s love? As you drive to campus ~ walk down the Imall sit in class ~ do homework at Zuhl how is God present in the people you meet the beauty of creation the new ideas you learn the challenges you face? Now is the very acceptable time! |
