This week is spring break for NMSU and we have a group of Newman students headed to Denver. No, they’re not going to Six Flags or other usual spring break activities. Instead, they’re going to serve Christ in the poor through an Alternative Spring Break trip with a Catholic nonprofit organization called Christ in the City. Last year two of our student leaders, Justine and Anissa (pictured at right) went to Denver to check out the mission trip. They came back from the week fired up for faith and service! This year they are taking a group of four other students with them to spend a week “knowing, loving and serving the poor.” A little about Christ in the City: “Christ in the City is a Catholic non-profit dedicated to forming missionaries, volunteers and communities in knowing, loving and serving the poor. Christ in the City began its work with Denver’s poor and homeless in the summer of 2010. The organization began under the auspices of Catholic Charities in Denver as a way to form young people to be life-long missionaries” (Christ in the City website). I will be asking the group to share about their experience in a future edition of the bulletin. Meanwhile, please keep the students and their “street friends” in prayer.
Blessings to you Justine, Anissa, Dean, Alanna, Jade, and Marisol!
Peace, Mona
