Altar Servers
Altar Servers at St. Albert the Great Newman Center have the honor of representing the faithful and assisting the priest and deacons during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and other sacred liturgies, including Solemn Vespers, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Weddings, Funerals, and Processions.
Altar Servers are also trained as thurifers to reverently offer incense during these liturgies, adding beauty and solemnity to our worship. This ministry is reserved for male college students age 18 and older.
Whether you are discerning a vocation to marriage or the priesthood, serving at the altar is a powerful way to grow in your faith, deepen your reverence for the Eucharist, and build authentic brotherhood centered on Christ.
Ushers & Hospitality Ministry
Ushers at St. Albert the Great Newman Center are men and women who extend the warmth of Christian hospitality to all who come to worship. As the first faces people see when they arrive, ushers play a vital role in creating a welcoming, safe, and prayerful environment for our parish community—especially for the many NMSU students who join us each weekend.
By assisting with seating, collecting offerings, and attending to the needs of the congregation, ushers help ensure that every person feels at home and ready to encounter Christ in the liturgy. If you have a heart for hospitality and a desire to serve, we invite you to join this important ministry.
Music Ministry
Liturgical music at St. Albert the Great Newman Center lifts hearts and minds to God, enriching the beauty and prayerfulness of the Mass. Our Music Ministry welcomes musicians and vocalists of all experience levels and backgrounds—whether you sing, play an instrument, or both, there is a place for you.
From traditional hymns to contemporary worship, our ensembles include choir, band, orchestra, piano, guitars, percussion, and more. If you have a passion for music and a desire to lead others in worship, we invite you to join us in this joyful and prayerful ministry.
Sacristans
Sacristans at St. Albert the Great Newman Center play a vital “behind-the-scenes” role in preparing for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and other liturgies. In a spirit of prayerful service, they assist the priest, deacons, and Director of Liturgy by overseeing the setup of sacred vessels, ritual books, and coordinating lay ministers.
This important ministry is open to both college students (age 18 and older) and Permanent Parishioners. Sacristans must be fully initiated Catholics and will receive training to serve with reverence and care.
If you’re called to serve the liturgy in this special way, we invite you to consider joining the Sacristan Ministry.
Reader Ministry
Readers at St. Albert the Great Newman Center serve as lay ministers who proclaim the living Word of God during the Mass, helping lead the faithful into deeper prayer through Sacred Scripture.
This ministry is open to both college students and Permanent Parishioners who are fully initiated Catholics. All readers must participate in a training session to prepare for this important role in the liturgy.
If you have a love for Scripture and a desire to serve, consider joining the Reader Ministry and helping bring God’s Word to life for our community.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHCs)
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at St. Albert the Great Newman Center assist the clergy in the reverent distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass. Commissioned by the bishop, EMHCs serve in response to the Church’s need for support in sharing the Eucharist with the faithful.
This sacred ministry is open to both college students and Permanent Parishioners who are fully initiated, active, and practicing Catholics in good standing with the Church. All EMHCs must complete a training session at St. Albert’s to prepare for this important role.
If you are drawn to serve Christ and His Church in this profound way, we invite you to consider becoming an EMHC.
