Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is that sacrament by which, through the laying on of hands, the anointing with chrism, and through prayer, the baptized are strengthened by the Holy Spirit in order to profess and defend the faith and live up to it faithfully.  Confirmation completes the graces of baptism, and is indeed one of the three Sacraments of Initiation along with Baptism and the Holy Eucharist

We extend a warm welcome to our Confirmation candidates, their sponsors and parents!  This is a two-year faith formation process for all students, but the preparation process can vary depending on individual circumstances.  The best way for parents to prepare their child to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation is to model active participation in the Sacraments, especially weekly Mass attendance.

The 1-5 Religious Education Program at St. Albert Newman Parish seeks to:

  • Teach children about our Catholic faith

  • Develop and strengthen their relationship with Jesus Christ

  • Support parents in their role as primary educators of their children

  • Develop a strong sense of belonging to the parish family, as evidenced by participation in Sunday Mass and other parish celebrations

Program Overview:
Our program includes formation and preparation for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. This is typically done in a classroom setting using a variety of teaching techniques.

Grades 1-5 Class Schedule
Students attend on-campus classes for an hour, once a week, beginning August 19th. Classes are offered on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary. Mandatory parent meeting on August 12th at 6pm at St. Albert

Expectations:

  • It’s expected that students be enrolled every year (1-5) to learn all that they need to know about their faith at every age.

  • Parents are the first and most important catechist in the child’s faith formation. Please attend Mass as a family each week.

Sacramental Preparation:
First Reconciliation (confession) and First Eucharist (communion) - Children preparing for these sacraments must have two years of active participation in the religious education program (grades 2-3). The sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated in the spring of 2nd grade and the sacrament of First Communion is celebrated at the beginning of May.
Students must have made their First Reconciliation before entering First Communion classes.
