Dear Young People, “You are the hope of the church and of the world.” (John Paul II, 1978) You "are not the church of tomorrow, [you] are the young church of today.” (Robert J. McCarty, The Many Marks of the Church, p.224) “Do not be afraid to accept your responsibilities. The church needs you.” (John Paul II, World Youth Day, 2000) “The Church needs you, your enthusiasm, your creativity and the joy that is so characteristic of you.” (Pope Francis, World Youth Day 2013) “Christ expects great things from [you.]” (John Paul II, Tertio Millennio Adveniente, #58) “The world offers you comfort. But you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness” (Pope Benedict XVI) “Say not, ‘I am too young’” (Jeremiah 1:7) And “do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for others in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12) "Do not be satisfied with little things, because God wants great things!" (Saint Catherine of Sienna, Letter T127) So “do not be afraid to dream of great things!” (Pope Francis, Twitter, April 26, 2013) “We are all called to be saints.” (Dorothy Day, Dec. 1941) But remember, “You cannot be half a saint; you must be a whole saint or no saint at all.” (Saint Therese of Lisieux) Christ is calling you. “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19) _______________________________________________ These are not simply our words, but the words of the Church over the last 2000 years.
