Religious Education (1st - 5th Grade)
The 1-5 Religious Education Program at St. Albert Newman Parish seeks to:
- Teach children about our Catholic faith
- Develop and strengthen their relationship with Jesus Christ
- Support parents in their role as primary educators of their children
- Develop a strong sense of belonging to the parish family, as evidenced by participation in Sunday Mass and other parish celebrations
Program Overview:
Our program includes formation and preparation for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. This is typically done in a classroom setting using a variety of teaching techniques.

Grades 1-5 Class Schedule
Students attend on-campus classes for an hour, once a week, beginning August 8/9 through May 8/9. Classes are offered on Tuesdays at 4:00 pm and 6:15 pm.
Expectations:
- It’s expected that students be enrolled every year (1-5) to learn all that they need to know about their faith at every age.
- Parents are the first and most important catechist in the child’s faith formation. Please attend Mass as a family each week.
Sacramental Preparation:
First Reconciliation (confession) and First Eucharist (communion) - Children preparing for these sacraments must have two years of active participation in the religious education program (grades 2-3). The sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated in the spring of 2nd grade and the sacrament of First Communion is celebrated at the beginning of May.
Students must have made their First Reconciliation before entering First Communion classes.

Sacrament of Reconciliation for grades 3-5:
December 5th- during class time at 4pm and 6:15 pm
March- TBA
Sacrament of First Eucharist: May 4th and 5th during all masses

$50.00 per child
